Day three…yeast
Okay, this is day 3 and already I’m having the thoughts ‘why am I doing this?’ But I guess that’s normal. I woke up this morning and I didn’t crave coffee, I haven’t had any caffeine at all today. I came down and got myself one of my herbal tea bags and went back up to bed with it, usual routine, but I just didn’t have caffeine, and I’ve not missed it, but let’s see how cranky I am later today!
I’m not sure if I gave an update on how my beef pottage turned out, surprisingly good, but pretty solid and I’m not sure if that’s the fact I’d thrown in a load of flax seed or if it was the handful of oats, so next time I make it I’m just going to use oats and see how that turns out because it was an ‘interesting’ consistency, think ‘gloop’ - so you had to heat it up and stir it before you ate it as it hadn’t got a nice thick gravy, but it tasted good and I had it with veg and I ate my fill and I’ve got no cravings for any of the foods that I normally do .
So right now I’m making another loaf of bread so I have something to take for my lunch tomorrow. I’ve made my usual recipe but with yeast, the challenge is that I can’t leave it anywhere to prove in the house because (huffs) you can see your breath in the kitchen!
I was reading something this morning that they didn’t really have yeast in bread in the 15th century, it was around, it was rarely used, used more for the higher classes, we had the trenches that we ate off, solid things (much like what I’m making now to be honest!) But I’m using a little yeast, as eating gluten free bread without any rising agent…well I may as well go and get a slab of concrete from outside. But I’m hopeful of this.
So all good so far.
